Summary

  • A possible UFO was spotted above NYC as an airlines passenger sees a mysterious flying cylinder.
  • The object was spotted at 2,500 ft, although the FAA has no reports from pilots.
  • LaGuardia Airport is the third-busiest in the New York City metropolitan area and serves as a hub for Delta Air Lines and American Airlines.

An airline passenger has spotted a possible UFO in the skies above New York City. Michelle Reyes saw a mysterious flying cylinder while flying on a commercial flight over LaGuardia Airport (LGA). In an interview with News Nation, Reyes said,

“The first thing I did was email the FAA to let them know what I saw. Maybe it was a safety hazard, but unfortunately I haven’t heard back from them, they didn’t acknowledge my email.”

According to The Post, a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) official said that the agency has “no reports” from pilots about the mysterious incident. The news broadcaster also spoke to Thomas Wertman, the State Director of the Mutual UFO Network in Ohio, who, having reviewed the video footage shot by Reyes, declared that the object appeared to be traveling at an altitude of roughly 2,500 ft.

The incident took place on March 25, although the story has only recently surfaced on social media. The flight details remain unknown. The footage recorded by the passenger can be seen in the video below from News Nation:

Was it a drone?

Speaking of the sighting over LaGuardia Airport, Wertman went on to say,

“Drones aren’t supposed to fly at that altitude, at least legally. If it were something related to defense or law enforcement, you normally wouldn’t see it so close to a major flight lane. That could be a potential hazard,”

If it was a drone, its proximity to a commercial flight path could have caused major disruption to operations in already-congested New York City airspace. Just last year, flight operations were temporarily suspended at Frankfurt Airport (FRA) following a suspected drone sighting, resulting in hundreds of delayed flights.

LaGuardia Airport

LaGuardia Airport opened in December 1939 and is named after the former New York City Mayor, Fiorello La Guardia. Today, the facility is the third-busiest airport in the New York metropolitan area, after John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR). It serves as a hub for Delta Air Lines and American Airlines, with the two carriers commanding a market share of 40% and 22%, respectively.

  • Chicago (ORD) – 1.10 million passengers (American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Spirit Airlines, United Airlines)
  • Orlando (MCO) – 862,000 passengers (American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, JetBlue, Southwest Airlines, Spirit Airlines)
