In dramatic scenes reminiscent of a Hollywood blockbuster, a video depicting a dark wall of cloud fizzing with lightning appears to show a UFO emerging. The footage was taken yesterday evening and onlookers were dazzled by the strange weather phenomenon.

A huge cloud appeared like a dark wall in the sky to the northwest of Bristol. It flashed with lightning yesterday evening (September 10). Among the dozens of images and videos posted to social media, one appears to show a mystery object flying out of the cloud.

It almost looks like a scene from a ‘found footage’ sci-fi movie, reports GloucestershireLive. In the video, which you can see at the top of this article, patient viewers will be able to see an object flash out of the cloud from the left of the frame.

The video of the lightning cloud as seen from Longlevens was sent to us by Mark Ravey. He wrote: «At about 1:12 in the video as the car drives by, an object flies from the cloud left to right. Unsure what this is … any ideas?»

We were also contacted by another person, who said they also saw a strange object inside the lightning storm. They took a picture of the cloud from Longlevens – asking for the photo to be credited to RavenWolf.

They said: «The storm had no sound and we spotted outer strange anomalies in the sky as well. The object you see [image below] must be solid because the lightning is not making it look transparent like the clouds.»

In response to our question about what the object was, Jeff Mays wrote: «You asked what the object was, seen flying from the lightening cloud last night. I watched the whole episode from Abbeymead and observed an aircraft fly left and right along the cloud, and it also flew towards and away from the cloud.

«I assume it was the Met Office aircraft probing the unusual weather feature.»

It appears as if the phenomenon seen on Sunday night from Gloucestershire and Somerset is what is often called intra-cloud lightning. This is when the lightning stays completely within the cloud. It was also seen from parts of the West Midlands, Wales and the South West.
