GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — Music fans in Green Bay are getting ready for Record Store Day on Saturday; an annual ‘holiday’ that came to fruition in 2008 to celebrate independent record store owners.
Special vinyl and CD releases and various promotional products are made exclusively for the day. You can see a full list here.
UFO Museum Gift Shop and Records on University Ave. in Green Bay has a lot planned for the day.
“We have Rick Sims from The Didjits in store from Chicago; he’s a big deal because a Didjits video was on Beavis and Butt-Head. We have lots of copies of Strictly Dynamite from them,” said Pierre Jacque, owner of UFO Museum Gift Shop and Records. “We’ve got a guy in a Sonic the Hedgehog costume handing out chili dogs from 1-5 p.m., and we have $2.69 off of all used records.”
Rick Sims will be at the store beginning at 6 p.m.
Jacque says Record Store Day is their busiest single day of the year; with over 500 people expected to come to the store on Saturday.
“We don’t even open until noon, but there are usually people at 5 a.m. trying to be the first in line.” said Jacque.
And getting ready to welcome in that many people comes with a lot of hard work and preparation.
“I’ve been working 14 hour days making room for new records, pricing things, filling up bins…” said Jacque.
UFO Museum Gift Shop and Records will be open on Saturday from noon to 11 p.m.
