Manchester-based Turno & Dreps Reunite for a Raucous Ripper on Bassrush Records. The Aptly Titled “OH SHIT” is an Energetic and Eritty Jump-up Anthem.
The track marks another impressive collaboration from Turno & Dreps, following standouts like “Back On Top,” “Boundaries,” “Clockwork,” and “Raise the Bar.” Naughty drum & bass architecture and menacing lyricism collide with expert finesse on “OH SHIT.” Dreps’ off-kilter vocals set the tone as the merciless beat packs an understated sense of intrigue. The ominous introduction conjures the feeling of uncertain anticipation before the emcee’s bars unload with an expletive-filled onslaught over the chunky drum arrangements.
As the namesake lyrics ring off, Turno launches the track into its frenetic jump-up signature. Steppy drum patterns frolic among murky undertones, thick shots of sub-bass, and a sequence of shrieking synth leads capable of turning skulls into smithereens. The rowdy DnB weapon keeps the energy steady through stellar switch-ups and waves of relentless heat. The reprieve is short and sweet, allowing for just a few short seconds of breath-catching before coming back with an even more merciless finale. From the commanding raps to the frenetic pace and blistering bass, “OH SHIT” is the type of dancefloor mayhem that feels like magic when its title is shouted with communal glee.
Turno kicks down some insight on how the track came to fruition: We wanted to make a call-and-response track that wasn’t the obvious for our upcoming GAMETIME show, and the ‘oh shit’ bar has been one of Dreps’ for a while that always goes off in the rave! It was getting such a crazy response in our shows that we needed to put it on a proper track to give the ravers a chance to show us their energy before the drop of this crazy tune! We made it in my studio together and recorded a scratch vocal—which led to Dreps finessing it at his studio. And, from there, it’s been getting the craziest responses all around the globe!”
