This informative map shows the areas of the United States with the most reports of UFO sightings. The data was compiled by the National UFO Reporting Center(NUFORC) based on sightings that were officially registered between 2000 and 2023.
The nonprofit organization collates and investigates reports of supposed extraterrestrial and unidentified flying object sightings. Their detailed map shows the number of UFO sightings per 100,000 in each US county over 23 years.
The map data says that the biggest UFO hotspot in the United States is Lincoln County, Nevada. This is the area where the infamous Area 51, a military base that has long been rumored by conspiracy theorists to host extraterrestrials and alien technology, is located.

According to the NUFORC database, Lincoln County saw 820.9 UFO sightings per 100,000 residents, which is the highest in the United States. Next up in the top three UFO hotspots were Arthur County, Nebraska, with 618.6 reports per 100,000 residents, and Alpine County in California with 594.1 sightings per 100,000 residents.
Studying the map shows certain trends. UFO sightings are more prevalent along the western coastline and southern regions of the United States. There is a theory that some of these locations see more UFO reports because there is less light pollution and therefore clearer skies; making it easier to spot potential extraterrestrial craft.
The populations and demographic makeup of certain areas are also thought to have a bearing on UFO sightings. Reports of unidentified flying objects appear to be more prevalent in rural areas where people may have more time to gaze at clear skies.

UFO reports have increased in recent years. 2022 was the peak year for recorded reports with 9,973 reports. This could be attributable to advanced technology, such as smartphones with powerful cameras, being more readily available.
Public interest in extraterrestrials has also grown after the release of Pentagon videos of supposed UFOs and whistleblowers testifying in front of Congress about their experiences of aliens and or alien technology.
According to the NUFORC, their map isn’t designed to prove or disprove the existence of aliens, but rather to simply collect data and examine trends.
