More bizarre sightings have been revealed this year over anomalous objects spotted in the North Wales skies. Every year, reports are made by people across the world, of UFOs (Unidentified Flying Objects) or UAPs (Unidentified Aerial Phenomena).
Although some can be identified, others remain unexplained, with objects appearing to defy the current laws of physics. The can sometimes be spotted hovering, or accelerating at incredible speeds in the skies, and sometimes seen diving into waters and apparently operating as submersibles, seen by credible witnesses and captured on radar and film.
North Wales has had its fair share of sightings and revelations this year and in recent times, as the debate over what the phenomena is continues.

In January this year, North Wales Live reported on a baffled local who filmed three mysterious pulsating lights over Holyhead Mountain. Read that story here.
At the time Justin Beilensohn, who shared the footage said: «I wasn’t sure if the two side lights were attached to the central light, or if they were separate from it.
«The light was spinning, glowing and pulsating and it was really bright, but there was no beam from it, like say you would get with a search helicopter.»
Mr Beilensohn added: «I have seen all kinds of aircraft in the area, we have RAF planes flying overhead all the time and helicopters – and I know what they look like – and this was like nothing I have ever seen. I am baffled by it and open minded to what it could be, but would like an explanation what it was.»
Then in March this year, North Wales Live reported on Ash Ellis, owner of UFO Identified, which researches the phenomena, who presented a list of five additional sightings in 2021 and 2022. You can read that story here.
The first sighting in 2021 was spotted over Mold, Flintshire at 1.55am on May 16th. Two bright lights following the International Space Station which were visible before they began moving away and up, before fading out of sight.
Barely two days later on May 18th at 23.30 in Buckley, Flintshire another spotting was made, this time a bright light in the sky circled a star before moving off along a common flight path.
Both of these sightings were logged by MUFON – The Mutual UFO Network which is based in Cincinnati, America. MUFON is the oldest not-for-profit organisation tracking and recording UFO sightings, having been operating since 1969 they are often seen as the forefather to other groups like UFO Identified.
Sightings then remained quiet until orbs of silver white light were seen moving independently of each other, flying high across the sky over Oakenholt at 16.30 on June 12th.
The final officially recorded sighting of 2021 came over Holyhead, Anglesey on October 1st at 19.45, an orb was witnessed flashing and changing colour in a sequence very high in the sky, no noise was made despite the object staying completely stationary.
One additional unconfirmed sighting was made on May 17th at 16.49, where a call was made reporting a UFO in the sky to North Wales Police.
Then on January 12th at 19.30, in 2022, a spinning fast aluminium like circular disk was seen in the sky over Llandudno, Conwy emitting various colours and moving for around two minutes before disappearing.
Following a few days later on January 18th at 7am in Buckley, a bright orange start like object was stationary for a few minutes before moving vertically and flying out of view.
North Wales Live also published an interactive map in August this year, which showed sightings over North Wales over the least two and a half years. You can read that story here.
They included a «Column of approximately 12 very bright lights flying low and silently overhead, disappeared behind clouds», in Flint on February 26 2022.
There were also «five short elongated shiny objects, turning into donut-shaped dark circles before two merged into a yellow white light» reported around Wrexham on September 10 2022.
The revelations this year, come amid renewed interest in the UFO/UAP topic, after the US Congress heard from retired Major David Grusch, a former Air Force intelligence officer, about possible evidence of extra-terrestrial contact, earlier this year.
In a highly anticipated testimony before a House Oversight sub-committee, Mr Grusch claimed the US is concealing a long-standing programme that retrieves and reverse-engineers unidentified flying objects. He claimed the US has likely been aware of “non-human” activity since the 1930s. Former navy pilot Ryan Graves and retired Cmdr David Fravor, also gave evidence about encountering UAPs.
Although the testimony in Congress had created a media storm, some scientists remain sceptical the US has secretly found evidence of extra-terrestrial life. That has included Professor Brian Cox who said “extraordinary” claims had been made, but without “extraordinary evidence” to back it up.
However others disagree, including Dr Steven Greer, who held a press conference at Washington’s National Press Conference in 2001, featuring the testimonies of a number of retired air force, intelligence and aviation officers. He claims the evidence shows earth is being visited by extra-terrestrials.

Luis Elizondo, a former US Army counterintelligence special agent, who had headed up the US Government’s Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program (AATIP) programme, set up to investigate such phenomena, has also said in a statement: «Many of these UAP display beyond next generation capabilities» and «remain unidentified». Mr Elizondo has been supporting efforts for greater «transparency» over the issue.
When Barak Obama was asked during an episode of The Late Late Show with James Corden, in 2021, if he had a theory on what the unidentified objects could be, the former US President responded: «What is true — and I’m actually being serious here — is that there’s footage and records of objects in the skies that we don’t know exactly what they are. We can’t explain how they moved, their trajectory. They did not have an easily explainable pattern.”
