In what’s been dubbed the ‘most convincing‘ UFO encounter, a man ended up with severe burns and melted fingertips after getting too close to a disc-shaped object in one of Canada’s most infamous UFO cases.
The bizarre event unfolded during the summer of 1967 when Stefan Michalak, a Polish national who’d made Canada his home, was exploring Falcon Lake in Manitoba. Stefan, a hobbyist geologist, had been scouring the locale for gold and quartz.
But rather than stumbling upon shiny rocks, Stefan got more than he bargained for after he had an alleged brush with a “glowing” UFO. His wild story was shared on the It Gets Weird podcast by host Nile, reports the Daily Star.
Nile recounted how Stefan was nosing around the area when a gaggle of geese kicked up a racket. Going to see what the fuss was about, he suddenly came face-to-face with two “cigar-shaped objects” floating off the deck, which changed hues from reddish-orange to gleaming silver.
One of these mysterious crafts started to lower itself, taking on the iconic round disc shape we all link with UFOs. Stefan apparently sat there and drew the thing, with his sketches ending up on the internet years later.
After a while, the curious geologist edged closer to the unidentified flying object. As he did, he caught a whiff of sulphur and exhaust, felt the air heat up, and heard a humming of motors.
Nile shared that as Stefan approached the craft, he noticed an open door with a bright light emanating from it and heard muffled voices. “He couldn’t make out any words, or anything, but he heard at least two beings communicating inside,” he detailed. “He called out, offering mechanical help if they needed it.”
The voices ceased and Stefan, wearing welding goggles, peered into the craft. He saw flashing buttons and blinking panels, but no living creatures.
However, things took a sinister turn when Stefan tried to touch the UFO with his gloved hand. “As soon as he touches the craft, the fingertips just start to melt, so it’s so hot that it literally melts the gloves he’s wearing,” Nile suggested.
Simultaneously, Stefan saw the spaceship begin to rotate, with a panel of holes facing him. “He’s hit by this blast of air, that pushes him backward and sets his shirt and hat on fire. He’s stumbling backward, getting pushed by this wave of air and gas, and trying to take this burning shirt and hat off.”
Nile claimed the craft then ascended and flew away, leaving Stefan disoriented and injured. “It really feels like this guy was too close to the tailpipe of a UFO and as it took off it just blasted him.”
Stefan began to feel nauseous and vomited, then stumbled through the forest to find help. He returned to his motel and, since the nearest hospital was a significant distance away, arranged to meet his wife back in their hometown of Winnipeg, taking a two-hour bus ride to get there.
Stefan was reluctant to discuss the details of his experience, with Nile suggesting: “Not really being sure what he went through, he told his family and the people in the hospital that he was hit by airplane exhaust.”
