The solar eclipse on Monday (April 8) led to intense eclipse mania across North America. People were more interested in all things celestial than they normally would be. Amidst this, at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, often referred to as the “Greatest Spectacle in Racing,”, drivers were left befuddled and amused by a UFO-like vehicle.

Here’s the photo of the UFO-car shared by the Indianapolis Department of Transportation. The post was captioned: “No this isn’t Photoshopped…this is I-465.”

Here’s everything we know about the UFO-car

The UFO-car belongs an Indianapolis mechanic, who has admitted in a 2014 interview with WNDU that he began ‘messing’ with cars from a very young age. He runs a garrage in Indianapolis named ‘A-OK Car Care’ and has collection of eccentrically modified collection of cars.

Anderson’s UFO car was made from an old 1991 Geo Metro «to look like something you’d expect to see flying in a declassified Navy video,» Exemplore News reported.

Anderson enlisted the help of a friend, car customizer Denis Bellows, to transform the Geo Metro into a UFO-vehicle, the report said. The rig is mostly burnished aluminum. A cut-down steering wheel has been customized like a airplane yoke There’s also a glass dome from which Anderson and his passenger can watch outside.

Despite its unconventional design, the vehicle remains street legal. Anderson proudly takes it to car shows and “cruise ins” across the state, where it never fails to captivate spectators.

«I started messing with cars with my dad when I was eight years old,» Anderson told WNDU. «Eccentric, maybe. You think? I am a mechanic who builds hot rods and cars. Seven-degree black belt. Karate. 23 years in the Army. I am an actor.»

«I love it. I don’t want to grow up,» he said. «When you write your own script, you don’t have to.»

«I come across this little toy. I’m playing around and I am thinking, you know. I would like to be in that bubble. It would be so cool to drive a flying saucer,» he has explained the WNDU reported, showing a small UFO toy.
