US space agency Nasa captured an unidentified object on the moon with the help of its Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) and scientists have an explanation.

The object was spotted last month and it is not an alien ship that has come to the moon but something which experts were not expecting.

Nasa’s image caught the Korea Aerospace Research Institute’s Korea Pathfinder Lunar Orbiter (KPLO) — also as Danuri.

Nasa said in a statement that the Korean orbiter is «traveling in nearly parallel orbits.»

The Korean Danrui is the country’s first lunar mission that lifted off in August 2022. It entered the lunar orbit in December 2022 and is aimed to allow experts to explore the lunar poles.

The Korean spacecraft is also aimed for lunar internet which could allow the moon to communicate with Earth.

Nasa said: “Scientists at Goddard Space Flight Center needed exquisite timing in pointing LROC to the right place at the right time to catch a glimpse of Danuri.»

Danuri appeared tiny silver because the LRO camera was exposed for just 0.338 milliseconds, which caused it to appear «smeared to ten times its size in the opposite direction of travel because of the relatively high travel velocities between the two spacecraft,» added Nasa.

Nasa’s LRO also captured the remains of other crashed landers.
