The Wanli UFO Village, also known as the Wanli Abandoned Housing Complex, is a fascinating but eerie abandoned resort slowly being reclaimed by nature.

The village, located in Wanli District, New Taipei City, Taiwan, was intended to be a vacation destination featuring futuristic-looking dome-shaped structures, resembling UFOs, hence its name.

It was designed to attract tourists with its unique architecture and offer accommodations for visitors looking for a memorable experience.

However, due to various factors such as financial issues and construction problems, the project was never completed or fully operational.

Over time, the abandoned structures of the Wanli UFO Village have become a popular destination for urban explorers, photographers, and curious travelers.

Despite its abandonment, the village retains an otherworldly atmosphere, with the dome-shaped buildings covered in graffiti and surrounded by overgrown vegetation.

While the Wanli UFO Village has gained a certain level of notoriety as a tourist attraction, access to the site may be restricted due to safety concerns or private property ownership.

Nonetheless, it remains an intriguing site for those interested in exploring abandoned places and witnessing the eerie beauty of decayed architecture.

Situated an hour north of Taipei, this deserted neighbourhood is comprised of two types of prefabricated homes: Venturo houses, which are single-story square homes, and Futuro houses, recognizable for their orb-like shape.

Originally intended as vacation rentals during Taiwan’s martial law period when many beaches were closed, the resort, like many others, suffered from Taiwan’s slowing economy, leading to its abandonment.

Despite this, there remains a degree of mystery surrounding the exact reasons for the homes being deserted.

Visitors who have been to the village have been left mesmerised by its beauty.

One user wrote on TripAdvisor: «These are actually private properties that intentionally lack maintenance. The more interesting things are supposed to be the long sand beach and the exciting activities around such as paragliding and surfing.»

A second user said: «Contrary to rumors that the UFO Village has been demolished, it still stands today! It’s a very unique destination, not for your average tourist. If you like weird, abandoned, not-touristy places, this is for you.

«I enjoyed it, it’s kind of eerie being the only one there, as most of the pods have been completely abandoned. (Closer to the beach there are a few renovated, occupied homes). It’s fairly easy to get to, just take bus 1815 departing from Taipei Main Station.»
