An astronomer has been left scratching his head after capturing what he thinks is a UFO speeding across the moon, as shown in this viral video. Dr Sebastian Voltmer was filming the night sky when a quick, bright something shot past in front of his camera.

He admitted, «While I was filming the moon, I suddenly saw a fast, bright something darting through the image.»

At first, people thought it might be a satellite or space station – but they don’t usually zoom past the moon that rapidly. Some guessed a meteor, but this idea was also dismissed as the object didn’t have a tail and was moving too quickly.

There were no records of shooting stars around the time Voltmer was filming, according to the International Meteor Organisation. Voltmer ruled out dust or bugs near his lens and said it would have been more than 500 meters away based on what he could see.

Speaking to BILD, he added: «I actually assume that it was at an altitude of 100 to 200 kilometres, i.e. in the transition to the so-called Low Earth Orbit.», reports the Daily Star.

The exact shape of the object is hard to make out because the still image is blurry due to its fast speed. It could also be space junk or a military object, but the astrologer said he would have expected more reports if that was the case.
