A woman was left stunned after spotting what she believed to be a UFO in the sky above Edinburgh. Sightings of such objects have been on the rise, with people becoming more open to the idea of extraterrestrial life.

In recent years, the Pentagon has shared files detailing encounters between military pilots and objects in the sky that seem to defy the laws of physics. And with people now able to take pictures and videos within seconds, it is no wonder more people are documenting UFO findings.

Edinburgh saw a record number of UFO sightings in 2022, with the count rising from 43 in 2021 to 52 the following year. And in March 2023, one city centre resident noticed a strange sight while closing her bedroom curtains, reports Edinburgh Live.

She explained that she usually sees an empty sky filled with light pollution above the Pleasance at around 6 or 7pm. However, on this occasion, something unusual caught her eye.

She said: «I came through to shut my curtains in the bedroom which looks onto the Pleasance and normally we do not see any stars on that side of the home due to light pollution.

«I can’t remember if it was Monday or Tuesday night, although my husband thinks it was Tuesday at around 6 or 7pm, when something caught my eye. I looked up and thought, ‘What the hell is that?’ It is too big to be a star and it was just sitting there.»

«At first I thought maybe it was a drone but I watched it for around five minutes before I decided to grab my FZ1000 camera to get a proper look. When I zoomed in it looked like an orb and was very round with a pattern on the bottom but it seemed to still.»

«I finished looking at the pictures and after a while I noticed it was moving ever so slowly and when I looked at one of the other pictures I thought there was something else there!

«It looked like a saucer to the side of the main orb – it was almost disc-like travelling towards the bright light. It vanished behind a chimney pot and then we never saw it again.»

She says that she had never seen anything like it before in her life but that she truly believed she had caught what looked like a flying saucer in the sky.

She continued: «UFOs have always been a fascination of mine. I’m in several communities on Facebook who discuss them and it is really interesting. You get some people who just rip it to shreds but I don’t care what anyone else thinks as I have my own thoughts that there must be some real accounts out there.

«You will always get your doubters and sceptics but there are those of us out there that truly believe we have seen something. For me it was the pattern on the bottom that was so shocking.»
