FLORIDA — The government recently again dismissed the notion that U.S. authorities covered up extraterrestrial life aboard unidentified flying objects, a perhaps disappointing conclusion for Florida residents seeking explanations for lights and other things they’ve seen in the sky.
In its 63-page report, the All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office offered numerous other explanations for the strange sightings in the sky. “Investigative efforts determined that most sightings were the result of misidentification of ordinary objects and phenomena,” according to the report of “unidentified anomalous phenomena,” or UAP.
More than 40 percent of Americans think UFOs are alien spacecraft from other planets or galaxies. The report from AARO, as the bureau investigating unidentified aerial phenomena is known, acknowledged that many people “sincerely hold versions of these beliefs” as truth.

The report noted a consistent theme in popular culture is that the U.S. government, or a secretive organization within it, “recovered several off-world spacecraft and extraterrestrial biological remains, that it operates a program or programs to reverse engineer the recovered technology, and that it has conspired since the 1940s to keep this effort hidden from the United States Congress and the American public.”
So, what is the explanation for sightings Florida residents have reported to the crowdsourced National UFO Reporting Center about strange sightings in the skies? Here’s a glimpse into what they’ve seen:

- Feb. 19 in Hilliard: While operating an aircraft in cruise at FL400, the crew observed 3 lights appearing and disappearing for approximately 1 hr 25 min. The object/objects were first sighted NW of Jacksonville Florida, and were observed for the duration of cruise flight (approx 500 miles/1.4 hrs). The object would appear at approx 290 Deg from the aircraft at approx 35 deg angle from the horizon. They would appear as lights that were very dim and would gradually appear brighter and then gradually dim until they disappeared. The frequency of appearance was approx every 5-8 min. We observed up to 3 light at a time that appeared to be maneuvering laterally around each other in different directions. For the entire flight, these objects would appear and disappear in almost the exact place in the sky relative to crew, even though the aircraft was traveling over 500 miles distance. Other aircraft noticed and advised ATC of the sightings.
- Feb. 14 in Oxford: Lights on object, Aura or haze around object, Emitted other objects, Aircraft nearby It looked like a cloud in front of a bright star to begin with…First, I went in side to get some adult witnesses. Our ages are 53, 49, and 26. It was moving the entire time. Slowing down as it went, until it disappeared. After 30 seconds or so, it began to develop a bubble of some sort in front of it as it slowed down. Then, after a minute or two total, it disappeared. To have been seen by all the other 10 or so posts here, as well as Central Florida, it had to have been gigantic. Truly, it was easily the size of half the moon. While this was happening, there were at least 7 aircraft we could see heading towards the object. It seemed to be approaching then applying some sort of thruster to stop, but absolutely nowhere near the surface. And visible from central Florida to Ontario.
- Jan. 1, 2024 in Bradenton: Light came down, move sideways then back upwards until it disappeared. This was seen and taken by my aunt and uncle. It is the same orb I saw back in Sept. 2021. My uncle watched the orb moving in a triangle shape -down, sideways then back up. It made erratic movements while doing this. It changed colors from white to red. Another orb appeared then disappeared. Made sounds like an electric keyboard.
- Sept. 16, 2023 in Lake Worth: Around 10:15 PM I saw these reddish-orange orbs in the sky. I filmed for 6 minutes or so, ran back inside to get my mom to witness and handed her her phone. I sent the video to my cousin who is a sergeant in the marines and asked if these looked like drones, flares or something else military oriented. He said: «I have no clue what that could’ve been. No way it was a drone or flare with the way those were moving that’s really cool though.»
Although many UFO reports remain unsolved, “most of these cases could be identified and resolved as ordinary objects or phenomena” if additional, reliable data were available, the AARO report said.
For example, the unidentified object may be a satellite or other data-gathering craft developed in secret by the government or private industry, the report noted.
