New Delhi,UPDATED: Mar 11, 2024 13:33 IST

The Pentagon has finally come out with the answer to the reported sightings of Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs) clearing the air if they are of alien origin.

The US agency, tasked with getting at the bottom of these events, has tracked the reports of such sightings since the end of World War II and has found no evidence of extraterrestrial technology.

In a new report, it clarified that most sightings were misidentified ordinary objects and phenomena. The investigation was led by the agency’s All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) and follows the 2022 announcement that there is no such alien origin to these sightings.

«AARO found no evidence that any USG investigation, academic-sponsored research, or official review panel has confirmed that any sighting of a UAP represented extraterrestrial technology,» the report’s executive summary said.

The report said that since 1945, the government had funded investigations to determine whether UAPs represented a flight safety risk. (Photo: AFP)

The AARO delivered the first of two volumes of that to US Congress last week, Pentagon Press Secretary Major General Pat Ryder said in a statement accompanying the release of the unclassified version.

The report said that since 1945, the government had funded investigations to determine whether UAPs represented a flight safety risk, technological leaps by competitor nations, or evidence of «off-world technology under intelligent control.»

The report said there was a persistent narrative in popular culture that the government, or a secretive organization within it, had recovered several «off-world spacecraft and extraterrestrial biological remains» and operates programs to «reverse engineer» the recovered technology.

«AARO recognizes that many people sincerely hold versions of these beliefs which are based on their perception of past experiences, the experiences of others whom they trust, or media and online outlets they believe to be sources of credible and verifiable information. The proliferation of television programs, books, movies, and the vast amount of internet and social media content centred on UAP-related topics most likely has influenced the public conversation on this topic, and reinforced these beliefs within some sections of the population,» the summary read.

The Pentagon said two years ago that its investigation efforts had led to hundreds of new reports, but nothing that indicates intelligent alien life.
