LUBBOCK, Texas — A Shallowater mechanic told EverythingLubbock.com he and his grandsons made a car based on his grandson’s drawing.
Ricky Taylor of Ricky’s Auto Repair said, “I got some grandkids, got some extremely good ideas.”
Taylor’s grandson, Zander, drew up a blueprint for a 1999 Dodge Truck and a Jeep Taylor had sitting in the back of his shop.
It took years of hard work and parts to assemble the car.
Details like the hand painted mouth on both sides of the vehicles and the World War II minesweepers attached to the front are from his grandsons.
Taylor said, “It’s got a barbecue grill that we actually make burgers and hotdogs and stuff on it. They all come together and, and me and this is what come of it. We built it.”
Taylor said he loves the attention the car gets but above all, knowing he built it with his grandsons.
“They take pictures driving down the road and somebody is filming as you’re driving it,” Taylor said. “It feels very good, me knowing that that my grandkids had a hand in it. And I had a hand in it.”
