New bill would allow pilots to report UFO encounters to official body

New legislation would allow military and civilian pilots to report UFO sightings without the fear of career repercussions. The bill was introduced by Congressman Glenn Grothman, who represents Wisconsin’s 6th District, alongside the Californian Democratic Congressman Robert Garcia.

The proposed legislation comes amid a recent spate of UFO-related news. This week, the Pentagon officially responded to a leaked video of a supposed «jellyfish UFO.» The video was part of a recently released docuseries, UFO Revolution, that an investigative filmmaker promises will ‘blow up decades of conspiracies‘.

After whistleblower David Grusch testified in front of Congress last year about the US government’s reverse engineering program for retrieved UFOs, there was a secret UFO briefing last week where members of the House Oversight Committee were briefed on the government’s knowledge of extraterrestrials.

The Safe Airspace for Americans Act would require the Administrator of the Federal Aviation Administration to create a mechanism for the reporting of sightings of unidentified aerial phenomena(UAPs), which the bill describes as «establish(ing) procedures and reporting requirements for incidents relating to unidentified anomalous phenomena.»

«The bill specifically enables civilian aircrew, FAA air traffic controllers, flight attendants, maintenance workers, dispatchers, and airlines to report UAP encounters to the FAA,» Grothman’s office wrote in an official statement.

After any report, the FAA would need to compile «relevant communication, information, or data,» and then share the details with the Department of Defense’s All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO). The FAA’s remit would include studying the incidents to assess whether they posed a national security threat.

Grothman hopes the legislation will bring more governmental transparency regarding UFOs, which will lead «to better protect the safety and security of American citizens.» 68% of Americans, according to a 2019 Gallup poll, think that «the U.S. government knows more about UFOs than it is telling us.»

The legislation would ensure that pilots would not be medically disqualified and relaying these incidents would not be used when assessing a pilot’s credentials to earn Airmen Certificates. Federal employees would also not be discriminated against and have their jobs terminated, or have security clearances suspended for reporting seeing a UAP. Similarly, airlines would also not be able to fire employees or issue cease and desist letters for reporting their experiences.

«We’ve heard from pilots that they’re sometimes afraid to report things,» Grothman told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. «They may not know where to report it and may be afraid to report it because they might be subject to a mental health evaluation, or they’re afraid somebody’s going to say they’re crazy.»

«I think, more important than giving them a place to report, is that they know they’re not going to be subject to any negative stuff in their career.»
