Extraterrestrial activity is off to a strong start in 2024
Evidence of extraterrestrial intelligence has been pretty scarce since the landmark UFO hearing held before US Congress in 2023 (unless you count those sketchy alien ‘corpses’ that were unboxed in Mexico later that year). Luckily for lovers of little green men, though, things seem to be picking up as we enter 2024, with the first two weeks alone offering up a wealth of bold claims and blurry camera footage.
In fact, the year itself was ushered in with the first of this fortnight’s strange encounters, as reports flooded in about a heavy police presence at Miami’s Bayside Marketplace on New Year’s Day. Though the police alleged that they were dispatched to deal with a mass brawl between teenagers with sticks and fireworks, suspicions were immediately raised by the scale of the response. The most popular theory among online observers? Aliens, of course.
This conspiracy theory quickly gained ground after someone circulated a low-quality clip (naturally) that supposedly showed a tall, grey, glowing figure stalking the mall close to police vehicles. With many people on the scene, it’s not entirely clear why there aren’t more images of the creature to back the claims up, although the original poster’s X account has since been suspended… could it be part of a vast government cover-up?
Probably not. While some squinted at tiny grey pixels, trying to make out the shape of the “10-foot alien”, others were quick to debunk its existence, saying that the video simply showed two or three people walking in close proximity – in low-res, the critics suggested, they had blurred together, giving the impression of one “giant creature”. The City of Miami police department even stepped in to offer clarification, telling NBC: “No aliens, UFOs, or ETs. No airports were closed. No power outages.”
“Nothing is being withheld from the public. LOL,” the department added in its response. Is that a bit of playful scepticism we’re picking up on, or are they laughing in our faces as they hide the truth right under our noses? Wake up sheeple!
So apparently space aliens visited a mall in Miami? 😳🤨🙄

Ok, so we may never get a satisfactory answer about what went down in Miami, but it’s possible that another clue about the 10-foot aliens has popped up just a few days later, on the small Brazilian island of Ilha do Mel. On January 8, yet another “mysterious” video circulated on social media, showing a hill on Ilha do Mel where two tall, slender, human-shaped beings were caught hanging out.
Once again, we don’t get a close-up look at the giant beings in the video, but we do get a few angles of them waving their arms around on the summit, before moving quickly down the hillside. “His arms r too long… it’s too strange,” reads one comment on Instagram. “I can’t believe they’re human!” says another, while other users express their amazement about their size and speed, backing up the commentary in the video.
Do the Brazilian aliens look a bit like human beings (albeit quite tall ones) captured from a strange angle? Admittedly, yes. But it’s no surprise that speculation is rife about the beings’ extraterrestrial origins, either, given a wave of similar stories coming out of South America in recent months. Who can forget, for example, the seven-foot, armour-clad aliens that reportedly staged a series of attacks on Peruvian villagers over the summer of 2023?
In light of these rumours, even official government sources seem reluctant to rule out the presence of something beyond our understanding in Brazil, although they have immediately spun it into a tourist opportunity. “Surreaaaaaaal what happened on Ilha do Mel!!!” says the official X profile for the government of Paraná, in a response to the video. “[Summer] in Paraná is another story and even ‘strange beings’ came to check it out.”
To be fair, if the 10-foot aliens are real, then they’ve had a pretty hard time in Miami, fending off youth hooliganism and/or the city’s entire police force. Can you really blame them for wanting a relaxing tropical getaway? Let them go on a little hike, and leave them be!
