Harvard expert downplays UFO sightings, claiming «they wouldn’t survive»

Avi Loeb, a Harvard astrophysicist and outspoken UFO enthusiast, has poured cold water on claims of UFO sightings on Earth in this video interview with a British media channel. Loeb, who recently claimed that any alien invasion of Earth could provide the opportunity for humans to learn from a more advanced species, is an Israeli-American who has been Director of the Institute for Theory and Computation at the Center for Astrophysics at Harvard University since 2007.

Loeb’s theory comes amid a spate of UFO-related news and sightings in recent weeks. A leaked video, which is part of a documentary from an investigative videographer, shows a «jellyfish-shaped UFO» over a military facility in Iraq in 2018. Last month, a supposed UFO was filmed close to Air Force One as President Joe Biden prepared to land in California. Meanwhile, a secret UFO briefing took place this week after US politicians called for more governmental transparency regarding their knowledge of extraterrestrials.

Speaking to GB News America, the academic said that the trip from one side of the Milky Way to the other would take so long that the vast majority of biological entities would not be able to survive such an odyssey. “It would take about a billion years to cross from one side of the Milky Way galaxy to the other,” he said.

“Given that, I don’t think any spacecraft that would arrive to us from another star would carry biological creatures,» he told Patrick Christys. “They wouldn’t survive the journey being bombarded by very energetic particles in interstellar space for so long,” the professor further outlined.

Loeb said that the only scenario in which an extraterrestrial could visit Earth was if they were not biologically based. “It’s more likely, if they are autonomous, they have an artificial brain, artificial intelligence. We have already developed that on Earth, we haven’t launched it to space, but that would be the next step,” he said.

Recently, there has been calls for the US government to reveal the depth of their UFO knowledge and Loeb agrees that there should be more transparency to keep the public informed. “The government monitors the sky for national security purposes,” he said.

“Whereas scientists [and] astronomers, for example, look at small regions of the sky at very distant sources of light. If something flies overhead, astronomers ignore it. If there is something over there, it’s the government that would be the first to notice it.

“As a scientist, I respond to evidence. That’s what we are waiting for: the government to disclose what it knows. … It’s really important for me because I’m trying to find the evidence myself, but the government can save me a lot of time,” he added. “Why should I spend decades of my life looking for something when the government already has it?”

Despite Loeb’s skepticism on an extraterrestrial’s capability to visit Earth, an academic at Stanford is ‘100pc certain‘ aliens are living on Earth. Dr Garry Nolan, a professor of Pathology at Stanford University, expressed his opinion at the Salt Expo in New York.
