A British UFO expert claims to have called an alien spacecraft by simply meditating. But it was only after Mark Christopher Lee and his alien-hunting team had given up, he says, that a mystery light appeared in the sky.
Mark explains that he was inspired by UFOlogist Philip Kinsella, who managed to summon a UFO after sitting in a patch of Suffolk woodland notorious for alien encounters for just half an hour. “He went out with a bunch of friends to Rendelsham – basically the UK’s Roswell – and they sat and meditated for about 30 mins,» he said.
“They then started seeing lights, strange ones and then Philip says they saw an actual UFO shaped like a witch’s hat with weird lights.»

Mark decided to try to duplicate the experiment in a field near his home in rural Hertfordshire: “We meditated for a while – it was pretty cold but had clear skies so could see a lot.”
Mark says he saw a lot of lights that were clearly airliners, before catching sight of a bright steady light in the sky. Unfortunately, he’d made a classic rookie UFO-hunter’s mistake. What he had seen was actually the bright glow of the planet Venus.
Disheartened by the lack of results, Mark and his friends decided to call it a night – and it was at that point that something remarkable happened.
“We all started seeing unexplained lights,” he says. «They were definitely not stars or plane. We managed to get the cameras back on, the results are amazing – there is definitely something to this.»
The entire experience was recorded for a one-hour documentary set to be aired at 7pm on Xmas Eve. Mark describes what he saw as a “Close Encounter of the Fifth Kind.”
Descriptions of close encounters of the first, second and third kind were made popular by Steven Spielberg 1977 sci-fi blockbuster Close Encounters of the Third Kind. The first is seeing a UFO, the second is finding some physical trace – such as scorched grass – that provides evidence that the sighting was not just an optical illusion.
A close encounter of the third kind describes an experience where someone sees an actual alien creature. The classification scheme, originally devised by researcher J. Allen Hynes in 1972, was expanded by later UFOlogists to take in a fourth kind, where a witness is left with lasting psychological or physical effects and a fifth kind, where there is some measurable communication between human contacts and the alien entities.
Mark believes his experiment, alongside Philip Kinsella’s experiences in Rendelsham Forest, shows there is a way to create one of these “Fifth Kind” alien encounters. The full hour-long documentary will be broadcasts on Ayozat (Sky channel 186) at 7pm on Xmas Eve.
