A new report in the Daily Mail alleges that a Central Intelligence Agency division called the Office of Global Access has spent decades secretly collecting alien spacecraft, and currently possesses «at least nine vehicles.»

The article, posted Tuesday morning by the British newspaper, quotes three anonymous sources who claim they «have all been briefed by individuals involved in those alleged UFO retrieval missions.» The story offers no direct evidence of the alleged program, only hearsay.

Those sources told the Mail that the CIA works with the U.S. military to track and retrieve unidentified objects that land on Earth. The two divisions of the military named in the story — the Joint Special Operations Command and the Nuclear Emergency Support Team — denied or did not confirm any involvement in such efforts. (The U.S. Department of Defense does have an office dedicated to understanding anomalous phenomena, called the All-Domain Anomaly Resolution Office.)

The Department of Defense declined to comment. The Messenger has also reached out to the CIA for comment, but did not immediately receive a response.

UFOs, or Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAPs), have been a hot topic for lawmakers throughout this year. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has co-sponsored a bill to make reporting on unidentified objects more transparent, particularly if they do not appear to be explainable after analysis (many UAPs turn out to be known phenomena, including balloons, aircraft or birds). The bill has passed the Senate and is due to go through the House.

In September, NASA released its first official UAP study, which ultimately found no evidence of aliens, but did say that as many of the objects it has tracked remain unidentified. That report called for more research and greater interagency cooperation in order to understand those objects.

Also in September, a Mexican journalist told the country’s government that he was in possession of several mummified alien corpses, which he displayed during a congressional hearing. Scientists around the world scoffed at the allegations and pointed out the journalist has been linked in the past to fraudulent discoveries of «alien» remains.
