UFO Sighting Sparks Alert in Manipur

An unidentified flying object (UFO) was spotted near the runway of Imphal’s airport, in the state of Manipur on November 19, causing a disruption in flight operations alongside a jaw dropping moment for some, who witnessed it.

Visible with Bare Eyes

Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) also reported an airport official stating UFO sighting at 2:30 pm local time, prompting immediate action from airport authorities in Imphal. According to a PTI report, an Air Traffic Control (ATC) official said that the UFO was visible with the naked eye, moving westwards of the airfield until 4 pm.

Operations Halted, Passengers Stranded

Following the sighting, airport authorities closed the airspace in the area, leading to the suspension of all flight operations. Approximately 500 passengers were stranded, with three outbound flights affected.

Near Airport Runway

Reports indicate that both air traffic control (ATC) and individuals on the ground observed the UFO in the vicinity. As a precautionary measure, two Air India flights and an IndiGo flight were instructed not to take off, while two incoming flights were diverted.

Statement from Airport Director

Airport Director Chipemmi Keishing issued a statement confirming the sighting of an unidentified flying object within Imphal controlled airspace. Clearance from the authority was awaited before resuming flight operations.

Airspace Handed Over to Indian Air Force

In response to the UFO sighting, the airspace was handed over to the Indian Air Force (IAF) for investigation. After obtaining clearance from the IAF, commercial flight operations were restored after a three-hour suspension.

Joint Probe Launched by DGCA and IAF

Both the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and the Indian Air Force have initiated a joint probe to investigate the UFO sighting. The Indian Air Force Eastern Command at Shillong has been informed of the incident, emphasizing the seriousness with which authorities are treating the matter.

Flights Suspended for Three Hours

The disruption led to the suspension of three flights scheduled to depart from Imphal to Agartala, Guwahati, and Kolkata. Operations remained halted until 6 pm, causing inconvenience for passengers.

Increase in UFO Sightings

Over the past two years, numerous incidents globally have been reported concerning sightings of unidentified flying objects (UFOs). According to the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, a total of 247 new sightings have been identified since March 2021, the cutoff date for a previous report. Additionally, investigations have been conducted into 119 additional sightings reported before March 2021.

Public Hearing on UFOs

A public hearing on allegations of the U.S. government concealing its information about UFOs took place in the U.S. Congress in July, 2023. The hearing, which featured testimonies from three significant witnesses, including David Grusch, a former intelligence official turned whistleblower, garnered considerable attention both in the United States and globally. In June, Grusch had asserted that the U.S. possesses «intact and partially intact» vehicles of extraterrestrial origin.
