The alarming sight turned out to be nothing more than «a skydiver with pyrotechnics» performing as part of an event.
A surprising spectacle in the Seattle sky recently sparked a social media frenzy. Videos and photos shared online gave the impression of an aircraft engulfed in flames or even UFO sightings, causing panic among onlookers. However, the Seattle Police Department promptly clarified the situation. According to officials, the startling visual was simply “a skydiver with pyrotechnics” performing during an event at Lumen Field, where a soccer match between the Seattle Sounders and the Vancouver Whitecaps was taking place. This clarification brought relief to local residents who had initially feared a plane crash or an alien aircraft landing.
Initially, one social media user mistakenly declared that a passenger plane had caught fire and crashed near Seattle. However, the user later corrected their statement and claimed that it was actually a USAF C-130 (JESSE91) aircraft involved in a parachute jump operation over Lumen Field for the Seattle FC Sounders game.
Several hours after concerns grew among residents, the official X page of the Seattle Sounders FC also provided clarity. They shared a video featuring three members of the Navy Parachute Team performing a daring jump from an aircraft directly into the stadium. Along with the video, the caption read, “What an arrival.”
Reportedly, the Navy Parachute Team had previously announced their plans for two parachute jumps on the same day. The first operation was set to take place at Marina Green in California, in the afternoon and the second was scheduled for Lumen Field at 7:20 PM.
In 2019, a similar incident occurred that left many assuming a UFO or a massive meteor was about to fall over Los Angeles, USA. However, it turned out to be a stunt involving winged jumpers, who were participating in a Red Bull event. In this case, three members of the Red Bull Air Force team had jumped out from a helicopter. They wore custom suits equipped with pyrotechnics and LED lights. This stunt was arranged to celebrate the third supermoon of the year.
According to USA Today, Red Bull had issued a statement explaining that their Red Bull Air Force celebrated the third and last supermoon of the year with this skydiving event. For the show, skydivers wearing wingsuits jumped from a helicopter from 4,000 feet above Los Angeles. The LED suits illuminated the sky, as the sun was about to set and the supermoon rose to its full glory.
